Welcome to
Mrs. McNeely's
4th/5th grade class
Welcome to my 4th/5th Grade Special Day Class! I have a Masters in Special Education from California State University, Los Angeles. I have enjoyed working with the Special Needs students for 26 years in developing their self-esteem and helping them feel successful in the classroom and on the playground. I teach Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science as close to the general education curriculum as possible. I adapt the materials so that they feel successful in all the curricular areas. In my class, we discover the students' individual strengths and potential. I start where they are academically and work from there. I'm assessing each student on an ongoing basis so that I can easily move them on to the next concept as they become ready. I teach using a multi-sensory approach, incorporating all the learning modalities. This ensures the acquisition of concepts. I constantly challenge them, but don't pressure them. As they make small growths, I acknowledge them which gives them a feeling of achievement. On a weekly basis, we integrate with the general ed students for the following activities: Music, Spark PE, Second Step Anti-Violence Program, Science, Meet the Masters and Class Act assemblies. Some students will receive extra mainstreaming opportunities if their personal skills allow them to be successful in the mainstreaming classroom. I know your students will make positive growths this year. Come by and visit sometime! Carrie McNeely
